Mary Pat Peeples is from Tuscaloosa, Ala., and is participating in the University Scholars Program. When she graduates in May, she will receive a bachelor's degree in consumer science and a master's degree in family financial planning and counseling.
Mary joined Dr. Melissa Wilmarth’s research project, and they began looking at how much time each day Americans spend on finical management and planning. They tested different variables including time spent by different demographics. Overall, they found that Americans spend 1.86 minutes daily on their finances. The presence of children, marital status, education level, and employment each had an impact on daily time spent reviewing finances.
