Laura Hopson is an Associate Professor and the BSW Program Director at the University of Alabama School of Social Work. She received her Masters degree in Social Work from the Columbia University School of Social Work and her PhD from the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work. Her research focuses on prevention of health risk behaviors and academic failure among vulnerable youths, especially those from economically disadvantaged households. She has partnered with schools and community agencies to examine the impact of organizational climate on service delivery and use of evidence-based practice to improve outcomes for youth. Dr. Hopson has taught courses in prevention of risk behavior for adolescents, school social work, research methods, and evaluation of clinical practice.
